Fire door safety week: Preventing unauthorised use with STI’s Exit Stopper

This week is Fire Door Safety Week, created to raise awareness of the critical importance fire doors play in saving lives and protecting property. As a leading supplier and manufacturer within the fire industry we’re proud to be supporting this years campaign and will be sharing tips and advice in addition to highlighting key products from our extensive range that can assist in ensuring in the correct use of fire doors.

Designed to withstand high temperatures, when correctly fitted, fire doors can provide protection for half an hour or more, providing vital extra time to escape or seek refuge. Wedged open a fire door is useless and offers no protection.

All to often, as seen in the Click it Kick it campaign, fire doors are wedged open and in a 2014 survey Fire Risk Assessors found 65% of fire doors were wedged open! Educating a buildings users on the importance of keeping fire doors closed can go some way in preventing this bad practice, however this is not always enough.

STI’s Exit Stopper emergency exit alarm is a highly effective device that alerts inhabitants to any unauthorised exits or entries through emergency exit doors. When a protected door is opened, the electronic Exit Stopper emits a powerful 95/105 dB warning alarm. As a standalone system the device is easy to install and can be located by any emergency exit making it a simplistic but effective deterrent in the misuse of fire doors and ensuring they are not illegally wedged open.
