Fire door safety week: Hold open fire doors legally with Sonnico’s Shuttle

This week is Fire Door Safety Week and we’re supporting it to help raise awareness of the critical importance fire doors play in saving lives and protecting property. Throughout the week we’ll be sharing tips and advice in addition to highlighting key products from our extensive range that can assist in ensuring in the correct use of fire doors.

In a 2014 survey, fire risk assessors found 65% of fire doors wedged open, leaving fire doors wedged or propped open is against the law and renders them useless.

However, there are numerous scenarios in which someone might want fire doors to be held open when there is no alarm. Examples of these scenarios can often be found in hotels, hospitals and schools where there are fire doors in corridors with frequent footfall and it is inconvenient to keep them closed.

Sonnicos’ Shuttle Door Closer is a legal way to hold open fire doors by complying with BSEN1155, which incorporates EN1634, and is a method of holding open fire doors accepted by all UK Fire Brigades. Shuttle works by utilising dual listening technology to learn the specific sound of your fire alarm system. This means Shuttle will only close fire doors upon the sound of your fire alarm and eliminates false responses from other forms of ambient noise.

With an LCD screen, Night Release function, time management system, fault reader and weekly test function Shuttle manages to fit many features into a compact and slim line design. What’s more, with default auto listening, no set up is required making the Shuttle incredibly quick and easy to install.
